When an upstream returns 4xx or 5xx, Ephem serves the last-known-good envelope with an x-ephem-stale: 1 header and continues to attempt a refresh at the normal TTL. Users on paid tiers are emailed when a stale-serve has been in effect for more than one hour; free-tier users can watch this page.
